The kick-off meeting for the Intercultural Philosophy Network (REPHI), which took place May 10, was called "Penser l'intercultural" (Think Interculturality). With REPHI, the Catholic University of Paris' Faculty of Philosophy turns its attention to interculturality as a new area of research.
Interculturality, A New Field of Research
Three Main Issues of the Day:
- To test the epistemological validity of the concept of interculturality, whose "contours" remain vague
- To identify the theoretical presuppositions that exist in practice and in debate
- To unite a network of researchers and institutions on a philosophical approach to interculturality
About ten speakers hailing from various French and foreign institutions and universities have joined the REPHI scientific committee to identify the conditions of possibility of an "intercultural" philosophy, and above all, to investigate the Western humanist tradition in relation to human diversity.
The wealth of contributions and the pertinence of reactions elicited underscore the philosophical interest of this new field of research.
