The Third Cycle prepares students for a doctorate in theology.
Since its creation, the Doctoral Studies Cycle (CED) has led to the successful completion of almost 800 theses in theology, in the most diverse fields. For a list of the illustrious names in European, Asian, African and Latin American theology published since 1889, please see the appendix. The most important questions in contemporary theology have been examined in these theses. Some have contributed to significant advances in research and to enhancing the prestige of academic theology.
In particular, the faculty has generated a number of theses in fundamental theology, a field at the centre of contemporary theological research.
Currently, half of the 180 doctoral students are international students hailing from every continent. One quarter are laymen and laywomen.
