The Faculty of Canonical Law is a specialist faculty. Its aim is to promote and deepen the study of Canonical Law and related sciences and to provide students, clerics or laypersons with in-depth training in these subjects, introduce them to the knowledge of sources and to help them acquire the critical judgment and methods required for the practice of scientific research, as well as for working as a teacher or carrying out tasks which could usefully be entrusted to them within the Church.
The Faculty uses the best methods available in order to achieve its objectives, particularly: its study programmes, the publication of scientific reviews and collections, the creation of research groups, the organisation of scientific conferences or sessions within the framework of the Catholic University of Paris and through working with other organisations, whether they are ecclesiastical or civil.
The Faculty prepares students for the canonical grades in Canonical Law which it confers in the name of the Holy See.
